Staying with a Local Family on Lake Titicaca: Comfort Guide

Sleeping in a family home on Lake Titicaca is the highlight of many Peru trips — but European travelers often have the same questions before booking. Here are honest answers.
Who hosts you? At Luquina 360 you stay with one family: Yonel and his mother Cefererina, in the community of Luquina Chico. It is not a hotel and not a network of different houses.
The room: simple, clean rooms with warm blankets, built in the family's home. Nights at 3,800 m are cold, especially from May to August, so bring warm layers.
Food: home-cooked Andean meals prepared by Yonel and his mother Cefererina, with what the family grows — quinoa, native potatoes, beans and fresh produce. Vegetarian options are possible if you tell us in advance.
What you'll do: you share real daily life — seasonal farm work, sheep herding with Bernardo the donkey, cooking together, walks to Cerro K'añicristo and quiet evenings by the lake.
Practical tips: bring cash in soles (there are no ATMs in the community), a headlamp, sunscreen and a reusable water bottle. Mobile signal can be limited — part of the charm.
Is it for families with children? Yes. Children usually love the animals and the farm. Tell Yonel the ages and he will adapt the activities.
