How to Get to Lake Titicaca and Luquina Chico

How to Get to Lake Titicaca and Luquina Chico
Getting to the community of Luquina Chico is easier than it looks. The gateway is the city of Puno, on the shore of Lake Titicaca. To Puno from Arequipa or Colca Canyon: tourist and regular buses run daily (around 6 hours from Arequipa). Many Colca tours end directly in Puno. There is also Juliaca airport, about 1 hour from Puno, with flights from Lima and Cusco. To Puno from Cusco: day buses, overnight buses or the scenic train. From Puno to Luquina Chico, three clear options: 1. Public transport: about 10 soles per person, paid directly on the bus. The cheapest option; Yonel tells you where to catch it. 2. Private car: $75 USD per service, round trip, directly from your hotel in Puno to the family home. 3. Shared boat (for the Taquile Island & Luquina experience): $40 USD per person, round trip. Transport is always charged separately from the experience, so you only pay for what you need. Tip: arrive in Puno the day before if you are coming from sea level or long overland trips. Take it slowly the first hours and drink muña or coca tea for the altitude. Need help planning?
