5-Day Lake Titicaca Cultural & Homestay Experience

Your experience begins with a morning pick‑up from your hotel in Puno. A private vehicle will take you on a scenic 1.5 hour drive along the shores of Lake Titicaca. The route offers beautiful views of the high‑altitude landscape, traditional farming terraces, and small Andean villages.

Upon arrival in Luquina, you will be welcomed by your host family and introduced to your accommodation. Rooms are simple but comfortable, built with local materials and designed to offer warmth during the cold Andean nights.

After settling in, enjoy a traditional homemade lunch, typically prepared with local ingredients such as quinoa, potatoes, trout, and vegetables grown in the community. In the afternoon, your host family will take you on a gentle orientation walk around the peninsula. This is an excellent opportunity to familiarise yourself with the area, enjoy panoramic lake views, and learn about the community’s history and way of life.

Dinner is served at your homestay, followed by a relaxed evening getting to know your hosts.

After breakfast, you will join your host family in their daily activities, which vary depending on the season. These may include:

• Helping with traditional farming techniques
• Learning how locals care for their animals
• Participating in fishing activities on the lakeshore
• Collecting natural ingredients used in local cooking

Later in the morning, you will take part in a cultural workshop, such as weaving, knitting, or learning about Aymara textiles. These crafts are an essential part of the community’s identity and are passed down through generations.

Lunch is served at the homestay. The afternoon is dedicated to hands‑on participation in community life or a guided walk to viewpoints overlooking the lake. Dinner and overnight stay with your host family.

Start the day with a peaceful sunrise walk along the peninsula. The early morning light over Lake Titicaca is one of the most memorable sights of the trip.

After breakfast, you will join a seasonal activity organised by the community. This may include:

• Harvesting or planting crops
• Learning about traditional irrigation systems
• Participating in a local ceremony or offering to Pachamama (when available)

In the afternoon, enjoy a cooking demonstration, where you learn how to prepare typical Andean dishes using local ingredients. This is followed by a shared dinner with your host family, offering a deeper cultural exchange.

After breakfast, you will participate in a handicraft workshop, where local artisans teach you techniques used in Aymara weaving, embroidery, or natural dyeing. You will have the chance to create a small handmade item to take home as a souvenir.

The afternoon is free for you to relax, explore the surroundings, read, take photos, or simply enjoy the tranquillity of Luquina. Optional activities may include:

• A longer guided hike along the peninsula
• Visiting other families in the community
• Learning more about local traditions and stories

Dinner is served at your homestay, followed by a calm evening under the starry Andean sky.

After breakfast, your host family will hold a small farewell moment, often including a symbolic gesture of gratitude or a simple exchange of words and wishes.

You will then depart Luquina by road, returning to Puno in approximately 1.5 hours. Arrival is scheduled around midday, depending on your travel plans.
